Minuteman Trail

The Minuteman Trail is a pedestrian and bicycle path (bikeway) which runs through Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford, Massachusetts. The Minuteman Trail is one of the most heavily used trails in the entire country. To learn more, see the links below.

This program contains new material produced in the summer of 2003, and fully incorporates two previously edited programs about the trail:

• "America's 500th Rail Trail", completed in 1993, a 12 minute documentary that explores what it took between the time the original concept was introduced until the start of construction, almost 20 years later. This program covers the history of the Railroad, Regional Rapid Transit, Community and Regional Planning, Local, State, and Federal Transportation funding & Policy, Community Relations, and Public Works Projects.

• A second documentary, completed in 1998, a 30 minute program covering the success of the Minuteman and plans for other trails in the eastern Massachusetts area. Scenes include highlights along the trail from its extension to Alewife Station in Cambridge all the way out to Bedford.
